- Acrylic Painting with 3D paper details. I made this painting shortly after the Robb Elementary School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas. The girl in the painting is meant to represent not only the children in her school but also children in schools all across the country. Her expression demonstrates the sadness we feel for her fallen classmates, the fear we—as students—feel every day we walk into school knowing it could be our last, and the helplessness we feel because our voices aren’t heard by policymakers. The cool tones of this painting were meant to capture the somber emotion felt nationwide after this event and the flowers coming from her head suggest her dreams of better things. By working in the third dimension with the flowers, I tried to increase the realism in this piece as a reminder of the reality of the horrifying event.
